Tot Tips: Calm Baby

Calm Baby

Although we’ll never admit it, our little angels (on occasion!) throw tantrums, get cranky and whine. Sometimes there’s a good explanation for their misbehavior and other times, baby is simply cranky. Parenting takes practice, patience and a steep learning curve to master, but you can never have too many tips! In our most recent survey, we asked you how to keep your baby calm. Here are some of your answers:

  • Snuggle, shhhhhhh-ing, distracting.
  • Routines, calm voice, reading books.
  • Tons of nurturing, holding, touching, hugging, kissing, loving has made him a wonderful baby!!
  • Music seems to really help my baby calm down. Especially when I’m in the car and I'm unable to pick him up.
  • Walking and singing, I can't carry a pitch but they love it anyway!
  • Encourage little breaks where the child sits by herself and reads.
  • Staying calm myself. Not getting worked up by the little things. Also baby wearing.
  • Lots of cuddles, eating when he tells us he is hungry, and frequent diaper changes/changes of scenery/rocking and movement in the swing or stroller.
  • I have made up a song for many activities that my one year old does throughout the day. She has a song for climbing up the stairs, going on the potty, putting a diaper in the garbage can, putting on a new diaper, taking a nap, getting ready to go outside, etc.
  • My kids like to feel as though they are helping me, so if I'm baking I'll let them "help" me mix and stir. If I'm dusting I will let them dust with me. They also keep busy with building blocks, toys and most recently crafts.
