Offer baby relief

Don't let your little one get a hold of dangerous items like electrical cords-he'll want to bite through anything to help his throbbing gums.  As soon as baby's gums begin to swell and he becomes irritable give him a cold wash cloth to chew on.  Anything cold and somewhat hard will help.

You may also want to try putting crushed ice into a clean baby sock and let him chew on it.  The small, cold ice will shift with baby's movements and the soft fabric of the sock can help soothe his gums.

Using topical pain relief gel, gently rub your baby's gums.  These medications are generally safe and will give baby relief for a short period of time.
